Are you gearing up for a family photoshoot? Capturing those precious moments with your loved ones can be a wonderful experience, and being prepared is critical for making it a positive experience. Packing the right essentials can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable photoshoot for everyone involved. Here’s my hot take on what to pack for a smooth family photo session.
WHAT TO PACK FOR THE KIDS
Snacks and Drinks: Keep everyone energized and hydrated throughout the photoshoot by packing a variety of snacks and drinks. Portable, non-messy options like granola bars, crackers, apple slices, and water bottles are ideal. Try to give the kids a good snack ahead of time so they aren’t hangry during the session 😜
Entertainment: If you have young children, pack some toys or activities to keep them entertained during breaks in the photoshoot. This will help prevent boredom and ensure they stay cooperative throughout the session. Packing things like bubbles or a favorite stuffy can be cute to incorporate in your photos too! I don’t recommend bringing tablets or using screens. When it’s time to put them away this can cause meltdowns!
Stroller: Depending on the age of your kiddos, bringing a stroller can be a HUGE help. Some locations require a little walking to get to the best spots. Having a stroller can help get kids around quickly without tiring them out. A stroller is also helpful when I’m trying to get some photos of just parents!
Weather-Appropriate Gear: Check the weather forecast for the day of your photoshoot and pack accordingly. Umbrellas, jackets, or blankets may be necessary if there’s a chance of rain or cooler temperatures. You may have super adorable outfits picked out…but if your kiddos are cold and miserable no one will be happy! Add a cute sweater or bring a blanket we can use to bundle up.
WHAT TO PACK FOR YOU
Touch-Up Kit: Include a small touch-up kit with essentials like tissues, brush, wet wipes, makeup for touch-ups, and a small mirror. This will come in handy for fixing any smudges or stray hairs that may occur during the photoshoot.
Weather-Appropriate Gear: Don’t forget to pack weather appropriate gear for yourself too! Even if it’s a jacket for warming up in between shots. Hopefully we’ll have nice weather and won’t have to worry about that though.
Emergency Kit: Prepare a small emergency kit with items like band-aids, pain relievers, and any necessary medications. You never know when someone might need a quick fix, so it’s best to be prepared.
Positive Attitude: Finally, don’t forget to pack your positive attitude! A relaxed and happy demeanor from mom/dad will set the tone for a successful and enjoyable photoshoot. Remember that your attitude sets the tone for the kids. Click HERE to download my full session prep guide and read all about how to best prepare for a session to make it as low stress as possible! Having things ready and prepared ahead of time is the best way to reduce stress the day of….and allow you to have a positive attitude!
Comfortable Shoes: Opt for comfortable footwear, especially if your photoshoot involves walking or outdoor locations. Comfortable shoes will keep everyone happy and able to move around freely. If you are worried about your shoes, pack comfortable shoes to slip on for walking, then change before we start taking photos!
